The city of Istanbul is well known among street photographers for its beautiful colors and the contrast of sunlight and shadow throughout the city. However during my visit in the spring of 2025 I was there for only a couple of cloudy days. This coincided with major protests taking place following the arrest of Istanbul’s mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu. Therefore I chose to focus mainly on documenting the strikes during night, along with capturing a few street scenes the following morning.
